Earn Your Black

Leadership Recognition Initiative for Grades 4-8

At our school, we believe the strongest leaders are not simply recognized for a single achievement — they are recognized for consistent character, effort, and integrity. Earn Your Black is a leadership recognition initiative for students in grades 4–8 who demonstrate these qualities every day.

Rooted in our school's core values, this program celebrates students who truly live out ROAR:

Respectful

Treating peers, teachers, and the school community with kindness and dignity

On Task

Demonstrating focus, perseverance, and a strong work ethic

Accountable

Taking ownership of choices and actions

Responsible

Leading by example and making decisions that strengthen our community

To "Earn Your Black", students must consistently meet academic expectations, demonstrate outstanding character, and receive a teacher referral recognizing their leadership and positive influence. This recognition is intentionally selective, ensuring that it represents students who model the highest standards both inside and outside the classroom.

Students who earn this distinction receive a black polo with gold lettering — a visible symbol of leadership within our school community. Much like a team jersey or honor cord, the shirt represents something greater than an award. It signifies that the student has earned the trust of their teachers and peers to represent what it means to be a Bobcat.

However, the recognition does not end with receiving the shirt. Students who Earn Their Black are expected to continue upholding the standard by modeling ROAR values daily, encouraging others, and contributing positively to the culture of the school.

This initiative helps cultivate a school environment where character matters, leadership is celebrated, and positive choices are recognized. It empowers students to see themselves not just as learners, but as role models who help shape a respectful, focused, and supportive community.

Through Earn Your Black, we are proud to recognize and develop the next generation of leaders — students who understand that true leadership is built through character, consistency, and commitment.
