While I am currently enjoying my twelfth year as principal of St. Augustine School, this is my thirty-third year of working with Catholic school students. As I attended graduate school, I taught English Composition for two years at The University of Akron. That experience guided me to pursue a career in education. I was fortunate to be able to teach sixth through eighth grade language arts at Immaculate Conception School for thirteen years before arriving at St. Augustine School in 2001. I have worn many hats in my years here; fifth grade language arts teacher, eighth grade reading teacher, assistant principal, sixth grade religion teacher, and fifth grade science teacher are all highlights because of the great students I have taught and the wonderful content I was allowed to teach.
I have a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from The University of Akron. I have also completed various certifications and trainings over the years to increase my own personal knowledge and to broaden my professional skills. I am a trained Ohio Catholic School Accreditation Association external validation chairperson, which provides me with an opportunity to see how other Catholic schools in Ohio function.
I have two daughters, both graduates of St. Augustine School. Rebecca, a 2005 graduate, works as a production services coordinator at the Walt Disney/ABC Studios in California. Christina, a 2012 graduate, is a senior at The University of Akron studying Public Relations. My husband and I just celebrated our thirty-seventh wedding anniversary.
I love St. Augustine School because of the fantastic students. Plus, every day is a new adventure!
Hello, I am Father David J. Majikas. I have been at St. Augustine since June 2002 and was installed as pastor in February 2005. I grew up in Chesterland, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, in the heart of the snowbelt. I attended public school through fifth grade, when I began to think about being a priest. I asked my parents to switch me to St. Anselm Catholic School. After eighth grade, I attended Walsh Jesuit High School, graduated in 1988, and went on to Borromeo Seminary College. My class at Borromeo was the first to receive its degree from John Carroll University. After I graduated from Borromeo Seminary/John Carrol in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, I went on to St. Mary Seminary Graduate School of Theology. I graduated from St. Mary Seminary with a Masters of Divinity and I was ordained to the priesthood on May 31, 1997. My first assignment was at St. Joan of Arc in Chagrin Falls. I served there for five years. I am looking forward to serving you in many ways in the coming years. Some of my hobbies are reading, fishing, hiking, golf, biking, gardening, and watching sports.
